Representative KPM Berlin potpourri vase so-called "Schilfvase No. 5". White porcelain. On a stepped round foot, with sculpted foliage and winding band, baluster-shaped vase body with short, retracted neck and moulded rim. Domed, open-worked lid, crowned by a large, finely sculpted bouquet of peonies. Sideways ascending reed tufts as handles. Unw. dam. / rest.; sceptre mark. H. 72 cm.
This is one of the most important Neo-Rococo vase forms as a support for soft painting, which was remodelled in different sizes and variations in the 1880s under the direction of Alexander Kips after the original design in 1768.
