ROMAN REPUBLIC - RÉPUBLIQUE ROMAINE L. Flaminius Chilo. Denarius in effigy of the divine Julius Caesar ND (43 BC), Rome. Av. Laureate head of the divine Julius Caesar on the right. Rv. L- FLAMINIVS - IIII VIR. Venus standing left, holding a sceptre in her left hand and a caduceus in her right hand. RRC.485/1 - Morawiecki, RN, 1981, pp.68-73 ; Silver - 3,76 g - 20,3 mm - 3 h From a Leu Numismatik AG 13 sale, 27 May 2023, No. 201. NGC CH VF* 5/5 4/5 Fine Style (8232364-001). Wide and slightly oblong flan, with idealized portrait of Caesar, perfectly struck. The reverse is also complete with the titulature of Flaminius Chilo. A grey patina, with minor traces of rubbing to the right, covers this copy. A superb example. Our denarius is in the name of Lucius Flaminius Chilo, quattuorviri monetales, with Petillius Capitolinus and Accoleius Lariscolus (the fourth is unknown) and was certainly struck in early 43, when Octavian became a lender and his private army controlled the Republic. The Caesarian Venus on the reverse is thus present to celebrate the Victory that was now to accompany Octavian, against the other Caesarian faction, that of Mark Antony. The two parties were reconciled at the end of 43 with the Second Triumvirate, which enabled Caesar's assassins to be defeated. * Following Council Directive (EU) 2022/542 of April 5, 2022, implemented in national law from 01/01/2025, buyers from within the EU have to pay 5.5% VAT on the hammer price of this lot. * Following Council Directive (EU) 2022/542 of April 5, 2022, implemented in national law from 01/01/2025, buyers from within the EU have to pay 5.5% VAT on the hammer price of this lot.
