First edition in its definitive form of this famous novel, a union of two previously published works, Le Paysan perverti and La Paysanne pervertie, thus constituting a text entirely reworked and recast together to form a whole of 462 letters. It is decorated with 120 fine engravings by Binet on the instructions of Restif, who demanded that the artist depict women according to his ideal of beauty. According to Lacroix, "THIS EDITION IS VERY RARE AND IS NEVER FOUND WITH THE COMPLETE FOLLOWING OF THE ENGRAVINGS". This copy contains the particularities of the first state: on the figure on p. 78 of volume I, Gaudet is in a religious habit and the wall is covered with erotic drawings; on the figure on p. 402 of the same volume, Gaudet is in a religious habit. These two figures were censored in most copies, and in later editions the religious habit became the civil habit. The copy is also complete with pages 13 and 14 bis and the final leaf (works by the same author and placement of the figures). Small marginal repair to page 244.
