First edition illustrated with a frontispiece, 44 colour plates and 266 black vignettes in the text. Both authors were archivists at the Préfecture de Police in Paris. Their work was published under the auspices of Police Prefect Louis Lépine and prefaced by René Waldeck-Rousseau, former Minister of the Interior. In addition to a wealth of illustrations, it provides interesting details on the history of the police and Paris. Ex-libris of the Strasbourg publisher and collector F-X. Le Roux, by Solveen. Spine browned, small scuff marks on two corners, tear without missing p. 19, a few scattered specks of brown otherwise a very good copy in publisher's binding with republican emblems.
