This is not only a reference work on the subject, but also a masterpiece of Alpine literature. Reproduction of Guido Rey's bookplate on the first flyleaf. A good copy. Guido Rey (Turin 1861-1935) was a leading figure in the alpine world at the beginning of the twentieth century, and one of the main players in the early days of sport climbing. Born into a large Piedmontese family and trained in business by his father, he soon abandoned industry for travel and mountaineering. He made his first mountain excursions in the wake of his uncle Quintino Sella, who passed on to him his passion for the mountains. Guido Rey made many fine ascents: he climbed the east face of Mont-Rose, the Grépon, the Dru, the south face of the Marmolada... But his most famous feat was undoubtedly the ascent of the Furggen ridge on the Matterhorn in 1899. He was also a talented writer, and the pages he left us are among the best ever written about the mountains. Perret, 3664 - Neate R25 - Regards sur les Alpes 99 (original Italian edition)
