Garden courtyard with two ladies in conversation while admiring cockatoos
High-format, light-flooded landscape with a view of an elaborately designed garden, in which there is a fountain with a small fountain and which is filled with a row of overgrown plant pots. Ricardo Brugada y Panizo studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Barcelona under the direction of Antonio Caba. During further studies in Rome, the artist familiarised himself with the classical works of painting since the Renaissance and then developed his own style in Paris and Madrid. He became known above all for his depictions of Andalusian life and Moorish courtyards. Brugada y Panizo later taught as a professor at the art schools in Cádiz, Córdoba and Barcelona. He also exhibited internationally beyond Spain, winning prizes in Munich, Vienna, Barcelona, Madrid, Bordeaux and at the Paris Salon, and in 1888 he also took part in the World Exhibition in Barcelona.
