First edition printed in 550 copies in 1891. The first slightly expanded collection of Rimbaud's poetry, it contains fifty-two poems, nineteen of which are unpublished. These poems are mixed with apocryphal pieces, at least three of which are by Maurice du Plessys, Laurent Tailhade and Ernest Reynaud, who enjoyed mocking Rimbaud and publishing verses under his name in Le Décadent: Les Cornues; Le Limaçon; Doctrine. Poison perdu was still accepted as authentic before being suppressed in the edition published by Paterne Berrichon in 1898. The collection prepared by Rodolphe Darzens was hastily printed by the publisher while Rimbaud was dying. Darzens, furious at not having been able to reread the proofs, had had a large part of the edition seized because of the preface signed by him, which the publisher had dared to write from his notes and without submitting it to him. Copies that escaped seizure were put back on sale a few months later in 1892, under a relay title that did not mention Darzens' preface, which had been removed from most copies. "This interesting episode in the history of Symbolism took on the proportions of an event in the Parisian literary world and contributed to Rimbaud's burgeoning fame (...).) If Darzens' preface (27 pages, some of which had appeared in the Revue indépendante) is marred by stylistic sloppiness, innumerable typos and mistakes of all kinds, it does contain first-hand information about Rimbaud, sometimes crude, spontaneously thrown onto the paper and not toned down by a rewriting of propriety".
