RIPOLIN - EXPRESS Double-sided enamelled plate with square return for the paint mark, circa 1950 . Very good condition, fantastic colours, optimal brilliance. 65 x 41.3 cm. It was a Dutch chemist, Carl Julius Ferdinand Riep, who invented a quick-drying linseed oil paint in 1888. He called it Riepolin, adding to his name the suffix "olin" derived from "olie", oil. Ten years later, Riepolin was bought by a French company, Lefranc & Cie, and became Ripolin. That same year, the artist Eugène Vavasseur signed a poster depicting three house painters, which quickly became one of the greatest success stories in the history of advertising.
