French dress in mottled branch taffeta, circa 1760-1780, mottled branch taffeta with pink and cream stripes adorned with knotted flower garlands; Watteau pleated coat in the back, with half-length pagoda sleeves, trimmed with scalloped falbalas gathered and worked into shells. Skirt trimmed on the apron with a gathered scalloped flounce. Dress probably altered for a transvestite ball under the Second Empire, mainly on the underskirt (wear under the arms, lace inserts added, alterations, weaknesses on the bust).
