Afternoon dress, for the seaside, circa 1880, set in cream mottled red thread, bodice with pleated basque, smocked on the front and trimmed with cream lace. Skirt with four heights of ruffles on the apron, draped over the bustle. Modified by the addition of a cherry satin bow on the collar and a wide draped belt that clasps over the waist.
