ROBERT DE VAUGONDY (Gilles and Didier). Atlas universel. Paris, chez les auteurs, Boudet, 1757. Large folio, marbled calf, spine decorated, red edges (Binding of the period). One of the most important French atlases of the eighteenth century, comprising an allegorical frontispiece engraved by Charles Baquoy, a historical preface and 108 double-page copper-engraved maps with coloured borders; the first twelve deal with ancient geography (nos. 1-12) and the others with modern geography: world map (no. 10), Europe (nos. 14-91), Asia (nos. 92-99), Africa (nos. 100-101) and America (nos. 102-108). Hinges restored, light wetness in margins of some maps, small tears not serious, some tabs reinforced.
