Lot no. 186
ROBILANT (Esprit Benoît Nicolis de) De l'utilité et de l'importance des voyages et des courses dans son propre pays. Turin, Chez les frères Reycends, 1790. In-4°, half basane binding, smooth spine, long title on spine, untrimmed (Modern binding). First edition, illustrated with 14 hors-texte plates etched by G. B. Stagnon after drawings by the author. The plates include two views of Mont-Rose (the first known, according to F. Couderette), a view of the Cogne glaciers, another of Mont-Viso, etc. A very rare work of great curiosity; important notes on the geology and mineralogy of Piedmont. A small hole (1 mm) on the last plate, otherwise a good copy.
The chevalier de Robilant (1722-1801) was lieutenant-general of infantry and commander-in-chief of the royal corps of military engineers of the king of Sardinia. He was an engineer, chemist and mineralogist, and Director of Mines in Piedmont.
Perret, 3722-A
