ROMAN BRONZE AUTHEPSA - WATER HEATING VESSEL. Ca. AD 1 - 200. A bronze authepsa, an ancient portable water-heating vessel. The oval-shaped body is supported by three legs ending in animal hooves, with palmette motifs where the legs meet the vessel. The central section features a horizontal spout shaped like an eagle's head. Around the shoulder, three suspension terminals are designed as face masks with loops at the top of the heads, each connecting to a large loop via chains. These chains converge into a single central loop for suspension. The rim is decorated with a raised ovolo band, topped with a panther peering into the vessel.
