ROMAN BRONZE HEAD OF MEDUSA Ca. AD 1 - 200. A cast bronze head of Medusa. Her face is modelled with a prominent brow, wide nose, and parted lips. Eyes are almond-shaped, and hair is arranged in thick, wavy locks framing the face and cascading onto the sides. The underside is hollow, and rectangular lug projects from the back of the head, likely for attachment to a larger object. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 26.7.1429. Size: 40mm x 35mm; Weight: 45g Provenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the Holland art market in the 1990s.
