ROMAN BRONZE OIL LAMP WITH HORSE HEAD HANDLE AND A LID Ca. AD 400 - 500. A bronze oil lamp with a broad, rounded body and a recessed shoulder framed by a series of finely incised concentric grooves. The filling hole is covered by a domed lid, attached by a short chain to an arched handle terminating in a well-defined horse’s head. A grooved channel connects the shoulder to the elongated nozzle, which is flanked by volutes and pierced with four small holes along its length. The spout ends in a circular wick aperture.
