ROMAN BRONZE STATUETTE OF A LAR
Ca. AD 1 - 100.
A bronze statuette representing a Lar, the household deity associated with protection and prosperity in domestic cult. The figure stands in a dynamic pose with one leg bent. Draped in a short tunic gathered at the waist, with the fabric rendered in fine vertical folds. The right arm is extended outward, holding a circular object, possibly a patera, while the left arm is raised, bent at the elbow. Facial features are broadly defined, framed by voluminous curly hair cascading onto the shoulders. A circular perforation is present at the centre of the torso, likely for mounting.
