ROMAN BRONZE THEATER MASK APPLIQUE
Ca. AD 100 - 300.
An Ancient Roman bronze theatre mask appliqué represented with its face framed with long and curly hair and a long Phrygian cap. This appliqué would have been decoratively suspended, perhaps from a piece of furniture. The use of theater masks was widespread in Roman society, particularly in the context of theatrical performances. During ancient times, theater was a popular form of entertainment and masks played a crucial role in dramatic presentations. These masks were designed with exaggerated features and expressions, enabling actors to portray a wide range of characters more effectively.
