ROMAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO OF GRYLLOS IN GOLD RING
Ca. AD 100 - 300. A stunning gold ring composed of a round hoop set with a carnelian intaglio of "Gryllos". The intaglio showcases a translucent vermilion shade and depicts a seated creature composed of a rooster's body with a human or gods face on the chest of the animal. The god associated with the rooster is Mercury. The Roman intaglio is set in a 21ct, possibly later gold ring.
