ROMAN GREEN JASPER INTAGLIO DEPICTING MARS IN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING Ca. AD 1 - 300. An oval green jasper intaglio engraved with a standing figure of Mars, shown nude and facing left, leaning against a column. A crested helmet rests on the ground beside him, with a horizontal line marking the baseline. The intaglio is set in a possibly later gold ring with a broad, rounded hoop that thickens at the shoulders and curves inward along the inner surface. Two small gold spheres are affixed to the inner back of the hoop.
