ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH AGATE CAMEO DEPICTING A DOG
Ca. AD 100 - 300.
A banded agate cameo carved with a hound in profile to the right, depicted alert with raised head and pointed ears. The animal’s body is smoothly contoured, with incised lines indicating the eye, jawline, and musculature of the flank. Mounted in a substantial gold ring with a flat hoop and high shoulders.
