ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH CHALCEDONY INTAGLIO DEPICTING AN EMPEROR Ca. AD 50 - 200. A green chalcedony intaglio engraved with the bust of an emperor in profile facing left, crowned with a laurel wreath and flanked on either side by laurel branches. His facial features are idealised yet assertive, with large eyes, a straight nose, prominent cheeks, and cropped hair. The stone is circular and set into a broad gold ring with a flat, expanding bezel and a smoothly rounded hoop that narrows towards the back. For similar see: J.
