ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD WIRE INLAID BOW BROOCH WITH THE NAME OF THE SOLDIER Ca. AD 300 - 500. A bow brooch of substantial form, cast with a sharply arched bow decorated in a repeating scale pattern and bordered by a row of applied granules, the surface inlaid with gold wire. The crossbar with rounded terminals is inscribed on the arms with the name of a soldier. A pointed finial projects from the front, and the catchplate is set on the reverse.
