ROMAN IMPERIAL EAGLE ON PODIUM
Ca. AD 200. A bronze eagle perched atop a tapering, stepped podium with quadripartite base. The bird is rendered with a rounded beak and slightly curved neck, with its wings folded close to the body and detailed with incised feathering. Legs and talons grip the platform firmly. The podium terminates in a flared foot with four splayed supports. Likely used as a decorative mount or finial. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 18699, Antiquities lot. 168.
