ROMAN MARBLE FRAGMENT OF LABRUM
Ca. AD 250 - 400. A Roman marble fragment depicting a lotus flower, possibly once belonging to a labrum. A labrum was a large, water-filled vessel commonly found in Roman bathhouses. Flowers like the lotus were revered for both their beauty and because they represented divine powers and the circle of life. Size: 70mm x 90mm; Weight: 410g. Provenance: Private London collection, B.A.; formerly in pre-2000 European collection.
