ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF LADY Ca. AD 200 - 250. A Severan period marble head of a lady, likely from the Severan dynasty. The head comes from a statue that most likely stood in a temple or private domestic alter. Her youthful face exhibits chubby cheeks and a furrowed brow beneath a coiffure of tight curls closing behind the head in a large flower-shaped chignon. For similar see: Museo Palatino Le Collezioni (2014), n. 86. on p. 269. Size: 50mm x 40mm; Weight: 155g. Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex. M. H. collection, Kensington, acquired on the UK art market in the 1970s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
