ROMAN SILVER PHALERAE WITH VENUS HEAD.

A silver phalera of circular, convex form. The centre is set with a rivetted medallion showing the head and upper chest of Venus in high relief, with oval face, large almond-shaped eyes beneath arched brows, straight nose and small, slightly parted lips, the hair parted and arranged in thick waves. The reverse is fitted with a transverse silver bar for attachment.
