ROMAN TERRACOTTA HEAD OF HERACLES AS DIONYSUS.
Ca. AD 200 - 300. A terracotta head depicting Heracles as Dionysus, with a voluminous beard and deeply set eyes. The hair is arranged in thick curls, merging into a full beard with individual locks rendered in relief. A wreath of vine leaves encircles the head, with tendrils extending outward. The facial features are well-defined, with a prominent brow ridge, straight nose, and slightly parted lips. The back shows the continuation of the hair with a textured surface.
