ROMAN TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP WITH EROTIC SCENE
Ca. AD 1 - 300.
A mould made terracotta lamp of Loeschcke type V with rounded nozzle and shoulder-volutes. The sunken discus presents an erotic scene in relief, with the filling hole placed slightly off-centre. The handle is pierced, and the base bears a maker’s mark within a circular groove.
