ROMANO-EGYPTIAN TERRACOTTA STATUETTE OF PRIAPUS. Ca. 30 BC - AD 200. A hollow-moulded terracotta statuette of Priapus, composed of two joined halves. He is depicted in a strong standing pose, with both hands grasping the garment and lifting it to reveal a circular opening at the groin for the attachment of a separately modelled phallus. The face has a prominent beard divided into three strands. The eyes are shallowly defined, the nose is broad and slightly flattened, and the lips are faintly outlined. Wavy hair frames the head, with a cylindrical dry measure resting on top. The back is unmodelled, with a small suspension loop at the back of his neck. Mounted on a custom-made display stand.
