ROSE (William) and Henry SEYMOUR. A tour to Great St Bernard's and round Mont Blanc. With descriptions copied from a journal kept by the author, and drawings taken from nature. London, Harvey & Darton, 1827. In-12, bound in the publisher's purple half morocco, lithographed boards each decorated with a vignette, smooth spine with gilt fillets and title. First edition, illustrated with a folding map and 16 lithographed views on 8 hors-texte plates (Mont Blanc, Nant d'Arpenaz waterfall, Chamouni, Argentières, Courmayeur, St Bernard, Aosta, Martigny, etc.). The first book on Mont Blanc and mountaineering aimed at children (aged 10 to 14, as the title states). A handsome, well-illustrated work, rare and sought-after. Handwritten ex-libris F. King Warren (dated 1845) pasted on the flyleaf, ex-libris Peter Obergfell pasted on the flyleaf. A good copy.
