ROSTAND Edmond (1868-1918). Chantecler. Play in four acts, in verse, first performed at the Porte-Saint-Martin theatre on 7 February 1910. Paris, Charpentier et Fasquelle, 1910; in-8, olive green half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed, gilt head, first cover. First edition, printed entirely on Japanese imperial paper, which shows the credit the author enjoyed after the success of his Cyrano. Very well reproduced colour headband stencilled after a drawing by Rostand on the false title. ☞ A copy specially printed for the actress Mireille Corbé, justified by the publisher and with a dispatch from Rostand "to Mlle Mireille Corbé, ex-poule grise". Had she appeared on stage? Her name does not appear in the list of actors. Complete with the first cover designed by Lalique, preserved, restored and mounted on strong paper.
