Lot no. 123
ROUAULT (Georges). Autograph letter signed to Roger Lacourière concerning his illustration of Baudelaire's Fleurs du Mal, n.d. [ca. 1936]. 1 f. in-4, central fold. The painter Georges Rouault (1871-1958) first mentions the Passion suite, which he has just sent to Roger Lacourière (1892-1967) and Maurice Heine, before tackling the subject of Les Fleurs du Mal, for which he would like to be able to choose the 22 final colour originals with the engraver, subject to mutual agreement with Ambroise Vollard, which, at the date of the letter, had not yet been finalised. This letter can be dated to around 1936, when Lacourière began printing the plates.
