ROUBER A PARIS, GILT BRONZE STANDING CLOCK DEPICTING THE ALLEGORY OF SPRING, FRANCE CIRCA 1840 Gilt bronze support clock depicting the Allegory of Spring, embodied by a maiden intent on feeding a small lamb. Flowers and agricultural implements symbolise the return of life both in nature and in the fields, while lyres and quivers allude to flourishing, love and thus the beginning of the productive season. Above the cippus concealing the machine, a rich vase of flowers completes the ornamentation of the sculptural group. White enamel dial signed Rouber a Paris, Roman numerals, hands missing their tips in burnished steel, 15-day movement, striking hours and half-hours on bell, with part-wheel.
