ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques). Émile, or Education. Amsterdam [Paris], Jean Néaulme [N.-B. Duchesne], 1762. 4 volumes in-12, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, smooth spine decorated with repeated coats of arms, brown morocco title-pieces, gilt coat of arms on brown morocco tail-piece, inner lace, gilt edges (period binding). Paris edition at the date of the original of this major work in which Rousseau sets out the principles of a natural education. The errors listed in the errata are corrected in the text. It is decorated with five out-of-text figures by Eisen engraved by de Longueil, Pasquier and Le Grand, the same as in the original edition. The binder has reversed the engravings in the first and last volumes. A very fine copy in contemporary red morocco bearing the arms of Count János Nepomuk Keglevich de Busin (1786-1856), humanist and collector, second husband of Victoria-Eugénia Folliot de Crenneville (1816-1900), granddaughter of the governess of Marie-Louise of Austria. Some foxing.
