Lot no. 197
ROUSSEL (Raymond). Locus Solus. Paris, Alphonse Lemerre, 1914. In-12, two-tone binding in ivory vellum and black morocco, contrasting title on first cover, smooth spine, gilt head, cover and spine (G. Gauché). First edition.
Locus Solus was as unsuccessful as Roussel's previous books La Doublure, La Vue and Impressions d'Afrique. If the relentlessness of the critics earned it scandalous fame in its day, it was thanks to the recognition of the Surrealists that it found its place in posterity.
One of only a handful of copies on japon, whose edition is unknown.
Complete with the insert La Critique et Raymond Roussel, which is often missing.
Binding slightly rubbed.
