KINGDOM OF HOLLAND Chamberlain's key of Louis Napoleon, brother of the Emperor, King of Holland In gilt. Ring chased with oak leaves and laurel leaves, adorned with a coat of arms featuring the lion of Holland on a naval anchor, surmounted by a crown with an "L" shield. Round stem, half decorated with a wreath of foliage and a beaded rosary. Plain collar and ball. Reverse with hook and ring. Attached to a blue moire bow with gilded silver trimmings and two tassels with gilded silver trimmings. Marked with the Crown (1807-1810), the "a" (corresponding to the years "1807-1809"), and the Héron de la Haye guarantee mark. Net weight: 88 g - L.: 16.7 cm B.E. First Empire period (1807-1810). Source : Former Napoleonic collection of the Prince's Palace of Monaco (1st sale, lot 122) A key of King Louis Napoleon's chamberlain Biography : Louis Bonaparte (1778-1846). Constable of the Empire, he was married against his will (1802) to Hortense de Beauharnais, daughter of Joséphine. Placed on the Dutch throne by his brother (1806), he was in constant conflict with Napoleon, who forced him to abdicate in 1810. He was the father of Louis Napoléon (1808-1873), the future Napoléon III (1852-1870). Related works : - A few rare examples are known, mostly of French manufacture.
