Russia, Order of Saint Stanislas, founded in 1765, gold and enamel 2nd class jewel (Commander), luxury private manufacture. Flat black enamel on both sides, partial hallmarks on the ring BM and 186('). The cross is surmounted by an imperial crown (special class) also in gold and enamel with title mark 56, dated 1860, and BM for the manufacturer on the flat of the clamp, diam. cross: 5.7 cm, h. (with crown): 8.4 cm.
Provenance: awarded to Johann Friedrich Weisse (1792-1869), physician and naturalist, notably physician to the imperial court. The decoration has remained in the family by descent to the present day.
