The young King Louis XV receives Tsar Peter I; in the exergue: LUTETIÆ / MDCCXVII. Diakov 51.2 - Divo 19; Bronze - 34.28 g - 41 mm - 12 h Purchased from Burgan on 17 January 1984, with collector's label. Period or contemporary strike, with concave edge. Minor handling marks. Brown patina. Superb condition. Peter the Great arrived in Paris on 7 May 1717 for a two-month stay. He stayed at the Hôtel de Lesdiguières. On 11 May, the Tsar went to visit Louis XV, who was 7 years old at the time, as recorded on our medal. During his stay, he visited the Mint, where the director had a large gold medal struck in front of him (see MDC 16 no. 2485).
