LUXURY OFFICER'S SABRE OF LIGHT CAVALRY Gilt brass and ebony mounting. Cap in the form of a lion's head stock, palmette and scales, small clover-shaped on a spider web background. Squared ebony buttstock. Rectangular depicting a glory on one side and on the other two sphinxes back to back. The joint arch with its laurel leaf motif of laurel leaves and the curved quillon and the curved quillon ending in a button. Half-groove cross decorated with a palmette with a palmette on one side and a bust on one side and a bust in the antique style of arms. Curved blade with hollow sides, gilded, engraved and one-third blued. Scabbard with two gilt brass in gilded brass with four cartouches in high relief on a stippled amati background. They represent a Roman soldier under an imperial eagle and thunderbolt, the god Poseidon, Hercules and Minerva. All decorated with geometric friezes. End decorated with palms and arrows, openwork sting. France, Consulate / Empire period. Total length: 98.5 cm PROVENANCE : - Roger de Montégudet collection (1880-1925) - by descent to this day.
