Cavalry officer's sabre with battle guard. Leather-covered handle with brass filigree. Brass mounting, cap with sides, guard with shell, with a principal branch and four secondaries, openwork with shell and grenade. Flat-backed curved blade, double hollow sides, engraved with flowers and trophies of arms, with signature on the heel "Coullier Fourbisseur rue Honoré n° 102 à Paris". Leather-covered scabbard with two large fittings, splints and two brass bracelets. Fairly good condition (wear from use, damage to the bolt, to be refastened). First Empire period. The House of Coullier, famous for having supplied the King's household under Louis XVI as well as his constitutional guard, was taken over by the furrier Pichon during the Restoration.
