National Guard officer's sabre. Leather-covered handle with filigree. Brass mounting, pommel with empanached helmet, hilt with one branch and line-decorated diamond-shaped auricles. Straight quillon. Blade with arched back and hollow sides, engraved on one third "Garde national" and "Je protège la Patrie". Composite leather-covered wooden scabbard with three cut brass fittings. Iron sting. Length: 102 cm. Fairly good condition (worn decoration on the guard). French Revolution period (1789-1799). Provenance: Collection of Monsieur F. EXPERT: Arnaud DE GOUVION SAINT-CYR.
