SAINT-DOMINGUE. Manuscript inventory of a property in the Maribaroux district, 23 March 1770 201 fol. pages in 4 notebooks bound with a blue ribbon. Interesting inventory of the property of a colonist and his slaves. Dispatch signed by the notary Despradels, certified and signed by Jacques-Barthélemy d'Hudicourt, civil and criminal lieutenant acting as seneschal at Fort-Dauphin (with red wax seal bearing the royal arms). Inventory of "goods, furniture, effects, negroes, animals, titles, papers, documents", belonging to the estate of the late Pierre Leblond, in his Fridoches property in the Maribaroux district. Mahogany furniture, clothes, weapons and jewellery...". Next come the "Negres", 19 in number, all named with an indication of their age and their "nation" (Congo, Bambara, Dioba, Adia, Nago, Misérable, etc.), estimated (except for illnesses) at 1800 to 2500 livres according to age, then the 14 "Négresses", estimated at 1500 to 1800 livres, except for two young Creoles aged 14 at 2200, then the 7 "Négrillons", and the 10 "Négrittes", with the name of their mother...". Then come the "Animals": cows, bulls, oxen, horses (with carriage), sheep... Then the buildings, the "Negro huts", the animal pens and fields (one of which is planted partly with indigo)... Then came "la nommée Chimenne ditte Marie Therese Negresse libre", who inherited furniture and the usufruct of the property bequeathed to her nine children, "mulatres and mulatresses"; she obtained the repayment of 1200 livres that she had lent to her master, and the delivery of the bequest, i.e. the indigoterie and its buildings, and 24 "tettes de negres negressee negrillons et negrittes"... This is followed by an inventory of another dwelling in the Maribaroux district, jointly owned by the late Pierre Leblond and his four brothers, Nicolas, Marin and Eugène Leblond and Leblond des Raques, comprising 62 negroes, 28 negresses, 10 negrillons and negrittes, ten of which are claimed by Eugène Leblond as having been given to him... This is followed by an inventory of the animals (with their names): mules, chair horses, mill cavales, horned beasts...; that of the property buildings, the mill, the sugar factory with its equipment and products, the land... Finally, the inventory of papers and titles...
