FR
Saint Étienne Yéanzi lives and works in Côte d'Ivoire. Using the materials at his disposal, Yéanzi reinvents pointillism. On large sheets of newspaper applied to cardboard, Yéanzi melts drop by drop the black plastic packaging and market bags that fill the streets of Abidjan. In the course of a ceremony that denounces consumerism and the pollution it engenders, in the fumes of burnt plastic, a miracle happens: silhouettes and children's faces appear. Ghosts take shape. You have to stand back before you can see through the magma of burnt plastic and grasp the power of the work. The blurring of contours and lines does nothing to detract from the evocative power of the message. Yéanzi is a graduate of the Lycée d'Enseignement Artistique de Cocody and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Abidjan, from which he graduated top of his class in 2012.
