[SALLUSTE]. Œuvres, translated by M. Lebrun, juge en la cour d'appel de Paris. Paris, Brunot-Labbé, Goujon, 1809. 2 vol. in-12 bound in full cherry red long-grained morocco, smooth spines decorated and gilt with small irons, foliage scroll with gilt bee and star motifs framing the plates stamped with the arms of Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès (1753-1824), archchancellor of the Empire in the centre, gilt scrolls on the spines and inside, gilt tr. The author attempts to understand historical facts with precision, right down to their causes, by rejecting the methodology of the annals. Charming copy with the arms of Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès (1753-1824), duke of Parme, archchancellor of the Empire and principal draftsman of the Civil code. This figure of the Empire ensured the interim of the imperial power in 1813 at the sides of Marie-Louise during the campaign of Germany. Exiled under the First Restoration, he regained his titles under Louis XVIII. Loyal to Napoleon, he discreetly supported the Emperor financially on St Helena, before dying three years after his death. Provenance: Collection of Princess Marie-Clotilde Bonaparte, Countess de Witt, which has remained in the family to this day. Good condition Binding : Several scratches on boards Minor soiling Spine a little sunned Inside pages : Freckles of varying density depending on the folio, more pronounced on the false-title and title pages in particular, and on certain sections.
