First edition of the official booklet of the 1827 Salon. In 1820 numbers, this catalogue describes all the works exhibited at the Musée du Louvre from 4 November 1827 to 26 April 1828, divided into seven divisions: Musée Charles X, Conseil d'État, Peinture (et dessins), Sculpture, Gravure, Lithographie and Architecture, followed by two supplements. A 3rd supplement of 4 pp. describing nos. 1821 to 1834 was subsequently added to some copies, but does not appear in this one. The first Salon catalogue was printed in 1673. The event takes its name from the Salon Carré in the Louvre, where it was held from 1725 to 1850. A copy bound in midnight blue morocco with the royal arms of Charles X by Ginain, "one of the best bookbinders of the Romantic period" according to Julien Fléty. A precious copy of the Duchesse de Berry (1837, n°508), with bookplate at the château de Rosny-sur-Seine. Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles (1798-1870), Duchess of Berry by her marriage to Charles-Ferdinand d'Artois, the youngest son of Charles X, assassinated in 1820, was one of the most illustrious bibliophiles of her time, but also a patron and benefactress of the arts, encouraging many artists through her many purchases at the Salons. It was at the Salon of 1827 that the large full-length portrait of H.R.H. Madame, Duchesse de Berry, by A.-J. Dubois-Drahonet, described under no. 346 in this catalogue with the note "This painting belongs to H.R.H.", was exhibited. This ceremonial portrait was a favourite of the princess, who donated it to the town of Amiens, where it remains in the collections of the Musée de Picardie.
