Lot no. 1906
Salvador Dalí. (1904 Figueres/Catalonia/Spain - 1989 ibid.)
"Cadaques Costa Brava". Original title
Study of the late Gothic church of Santa Maria in the picturesque Catalonian harbour town of Cadaqués, with which Salvador Dalí was closely associated throughout his life, having spent several summers there as a child in the house where his father was born. When the artist decided to return to his homeland after his time in Paris and New York, he was drawn to the bay of Portlligat, which neighbours Cadaqués, where he was inspired by the picturesque surroundings. The unspoilt, wild and fascinating coastal landscape of the Costa Brava and the surrounding villages that are so characteristic of the area are reflected in many of the artist's works. Ballpoint pen/paper, 1974, signed, dated and titled. Occasional drawing on a book page in: David Larkin (ed.), Dali, Pan Books, London 1974, in which the title page is also signed. Sheet 29.8 cm x 22.2 cm. Frame.
