He is considered the main representative of surrealism. After taking painting lessons in his childhood and youth, he studied at the Academia de San Fernando. Other students included Luis Buñuel and Federico Garcia Lorca. In 1926 he was expelled from the academy by royal decree. At that time he met Pablo Picasso in Paris. He devoted himself to surrealist art from an early age. At the suggestion of Joan Miró, Dalí joined the group of Surrealists in Paris in 1929 and met, for example, Hans Arp, André Breton, Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy, René Magritte, Man Ray, Tristan Tzara, Meret Oppenheim and Paul Éluard. The latter's wife, Gala, later married Dalí himself. Controversies arose over his eccentric behaviour, his attitude to Francisco Franco and his much-discussed late work. Artists connected to Dalí: René Magritte, Man Ray, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, Yves Tanguy, Giorgio de Chirico, Ernst Fuchs, Arik Brauer, Rudolf Hausner, Wolfgang Hutter, Anton Lehmden Andre Masson, Meret Oppenheim, Cindy Sherman. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13%, for photographys 20%, is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation.
