Delightful edition decorated by Gustave Adolphe Mossa with 56 hand-engraved and watercoloured compositions: frontispiece, 37 lettrines, 6 headpieces, 6 culs-de-lampe, 6 hors-texte. ☞ One of 55 copies printed on Japanese imperial paper, accompanied by two separate suites of illustrations: in black on Chine, in colour with remarks on Arches vellum. Charles Lanoé composed for the upper cover of the binding an art nouveau decoration inspired by the porch of the frontispiece, enhanced with gilt and mosaic, a masterpiece of execution and decorative composition.
