Saint Felix of Cantalice with Child Oil on canvas 77 x 62 cm The painting depicts Saint Felix of Cantalice, a Capuchin friar, in the act of receiving in his arms the Child Jesus, lying on a cloth and caught in a lively and affectionate gesture; behind the saint, angelic figures can be glimpsed participating in the scene. The composition is built on a calm balance and a direct emotional relationship between the protagonists, emphasised by the exchange of glances and the gestures of the hands. In terms of its formal solutions and light colouring, the work belongs to the mature phase of Francesco De Mura's production, in a period after 1750, when the painter orientated his language towards moderately classicist results, in dialogue with Roman models of the Marattesque influence and with the contemporary production of Sebastiano Conca, while maintaining a softer and more communicative rendering of the affections compared to the more rigorous classicism of Anton Raphael Mengs. In a 19th-century frame. The work is accompanied by an expertise by Prof. Nicola Spinosa dated 30 March 2026.
