Lot no. 42
BURMESE PINK SAPPHIRE (NH) 18k (750 thousandths) yellow and white gold ring set with a mixed cushion-cut transparent natural pink sapphire weighing approximately 5 ct (laboratory estimate 5.24 ct) of a very vivid pink tending towards purple, with very good saturation and transparency. The laboratory indicates that it comes from Burma (Myanmar) and is unheated. This saturated, extremely luminous colour is of exceptional natural quality, making it extremely rare. Set in a closed setting, the central stone is illuminated on four sides by groups of four small diamonds. ALGT report dated 10 September 2024 nr. 24832784. Scratches. Finger size: 58 Gross weight: 5.9 g. Sapphires come in many colours, including pink-purple, but they are most valuable when the stone is "alive", i.e. when it shines and plays with its inner fire from all directions. A sapphire such as the one shown here has one major advantage. According to laboratory analyses, it is of Burmese origin, one of the most sought-after origins and now rare because the mines have not been accessible since 2017. The most beautiful stones are rare, as they often depend on the geopolitical situation in the region where they are mined. Burmese sapphire, the world's No. 2 gem by origin (after Kashmir), has remarkable qualities, including a rare transparency, which is the case here. There are no clouds of rutile needles in this stone. A crystal here and there is present, but otherwise it's a journey through beautiful purity!
